DAY 1 | MANDURIA | Arrival and warm up ride

Start your bike tour with a warm up ride to reach your wine resort and start to discover the wines of Puglia. and the Manduria fertile and ancient terroir located between the three provinces of Taranto, Lecce and Brindisi. Cyclist are welcomed to the Town of the Messapians and its large necropolis and the impressive megalithic walls, which limit the old centre and testify the glorious past. your tour continue with a loop bike ride to discover the Primitivo wime civilizarion as you cycle across Manduria old town containing troves belonging to other ages and events, whose traces are visible in the small alleys and squares, that disclose the streets paved with black lava rock, and noble palaces, with columns frame of impressive portals of historical. Two days of cycling to explore the Ionian coast and reach the fishing town of Gallipoli visit its amazing fish market and local wineries. On the day 4 you can rest your legs and enjoy one ont he many sandy beaches of Baia Verde or opt for a loop ride across the countryside surrounding Gallipoli, biking through Galatone and its Liberty villas, visit the small town s of Alezio and Tuglie, stop for more wine tasting in Nardò Schola Sarmenti winery and cycle back to your hotel in Gallipoli. old town. Gallipoli is located by the Ionian Sea, on the west coast of the Salentina Peninsula. The town is divided into two parts, the modern and the old city located on a limestone island, linked to the mainland by a bridge built in the 16th century. Of great interest in Gallipoli are the Cattedrale di Sant' Agata along via Antonietta de Pace, together with the Church of Santa Maria della Purita' (1661). The richly decorated interior houses, at the marble high altar, a canvas by Luca Giordano. Not to be missed also the imposing Angevine-Aragonese Castle, built in the 13th century by the Byzantines, largely remade under the Angevines and the Aragonese, who added a polygonal wall fortified with round towers.
According to a legend, the city was founded in ancient times by Idomeneus of Crete, while Pliny the Elder attributes the foundation to the Senones Gauls, but more likely, it was a Messapic settlement.

DAY 6-7 | LECCE THE BAROQUE THE MALVASIA NERA AND THE LOCAL WINERIES Continue your discovery on two wheels cycling along the adriatic coast all the way to Lecce baroque Jewell. Strol the old town center with its amazing baroque architecture, and noble palaces and ride he countryside to learn more about the local grape varieties and wine production as you visit another beautiful winery, set amid a boucolic landscape surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Your effor is rewarded by delicious food and wine pairing lunch, and a tutored tasting of selected wines. The winery owner and our sommelier Angela, AIS and ONAV certified wine expert, will introduce the local grapes and history of wine production in Salento. Today's wine tour offers many options to talk and meet the people behind the wines of Puglia . Wineries we can visit in Salento include Azienda Cantele in GUAGNANO, Schola Sarmenti in Nardò, "Leone de Castris" in SALICE SALENTINO. DOC areas down in the peninsula of SALENTO includes as main grape the Negro Amaro and Primitivo, together with the "Malvasia Nera di Lecce", grapes that are used for the local DOC wines. Other DOC are the Primitivo di Manduria DOC and the more recent DOCG Primitivo di Manduria Dolce Naturale, with the wines from the DOC of Salice Salentino, the DOC Gravina, the one of Martina Franca and Locorotondo.
