On this SELF GUIDED bike tour of Sicily following our bike Garmin GPS navigator, and pedaling along selected country back roads with low traffic, you will explore by bike a group of towns in south-eastern Sicily representing the culmination and final flowering of Baroque art in Europe. As you cycle through the streets of Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli and Ispica, you'll feel the golden warmth of the sicilian sun and observe the prestigious architecture Biking the Sicilian routes will unveil the exceptional quality of this late Baroque art and architecture characterizing the Val di Noto geography and chronological homogeneity, as well as its quantity, the result of the 1693 earthquake in this region. Stroll the historical center of Modica stretching along Corso Umberto I, considered the living room of the town of Modica, in the lower part of the Iblean center. Stop in the Piazza Matteotti, where the Carmina church, is located, and enjoy the local live. The circular window and the portal below were constructed before the earthquake in 1693. Continue pedaling along Corso Umberto I, , bifurcates and becomes Via Marchesa Tedeschi to the right to discover further ahead at the square of Santa Maria, with the church of Santa Maria of Bethlehem.

DAY 1 | Arrival in SIRACUSA | Arrival and transfer to your hotel in SIRACUSA

At your arrival in Catania our driver will take you to the first hotel located in the town of SIRACUSA. Recover from your trip, check the old town center and dine at leisure. Syracuse is an authentic wonderland, where the Romans and Byzantines, the Arabs and Normans, the Swabians and Aragonese all wrote a page or two of Sicilian history. Here echoes of ancient civilizations still resound in the streets of this coastal city, and Baroque architecture narrates its eventual rebirth as sun, sand and sky envelop it with their brilliance. Visit Siracusa vast archaeological park containing the greatest concentration of ruins and stroll the old Ortigia old town, where precious testimonials recall with great force the splendor of Magna Graecia.

DAY 2 MODICA| Cycle the Iblei mountains all the way to Modica - 50 km moderate challenging

Start your bike trip of Sicilia with morning briefing and bike setting before starting to explore the Iblei highlands and valleys by bike. Your first bike ride will take you across a landscape characterized by profound canyons, eroded over time by flowing rivers and streams all the way to the charming baroque town of Modica, nowadays more famous for its chocolate crafted following ancient Aztec recipes, than for the amazing baroque architecture and churches.

DAY 3 MODICA | Cycle from Modica to Scicli - 40 km easy Continue riding the Val di Noto Unesco site since, pedaling ass the landscape becomes more gentle sloping down towards the splendid coast, with Scoglitti and Pozzallo. It is an alternating balance of cliffs and endless beaches of finest sand, with colors truly beyond words, painted by sunrays at play over the blue seas and golden beaches. The eight towns in south-eastern Sicily: Caltagirone, Militello, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo, Ragusa and Scicli, were all rebuilt after 1693 on or beside towns existing at the time of the earthquake which took place in that year. They represent a considerable collective undertaking, successfully carried out at an high level of architectural and artistic achievement. Keeping within the late Baroque style of the day, they also depict distinctive innovations in town planning and urban building. Explore Scicli , admire Palazzo Beneventano, and the San Bartolomeo church, like a shell seemingly nestled int he calcareous rocks, troll via Mormino Penna , were stronger is the late baroque influence and stile. Enjoy lunch at Osteria Tre colli overlooking the beautiful "Piazza Italia" and continue your bike excursion toward the sea and Donnalucata.

One of the most important aspects of Sicilian cuisine is the quality of the ingredients that always follow the season, fragrant and amazingly tasty. On this hands on cooking class you will learn more about all the typical and most delicious recipes. Today's ride is a a bike tour for wine lovers, across the plane dotted with farms and vineyards. Your destination is the Buonivini area and Planeta winery an 'invisible' winery, hidden among the natural slope of the hills, which perfectly blends technical and architectural requirements, built to reduce the impact on the countryside. Today you will learn more about the "sicilian wines" and grapes enjoying a guided tour of this wine estate. Your effort will be rewarded with a lunch and tutored wine tasting of selected wines. Here oldest Sicilian traditions of wine making, with its heritage of indigenous varieties, is combined with innovation and modernity, history and tradition. your last bike ride in Sicily will take you from Noto to the Vendicari natural reserve across the typical landscape, dotted with fields and green houses. The great ecological "success" of Vendicari is given to its manifold habitat, which can be divided into different biotopes: rocky coast, sandy coast, Mediterranean maquis, marshes (brackish and freshwater), salt pans, garigue, and cultivated areas. The local fauna is very rich in birds and varies according to the seasons and the physiology of the animals. As you continue cycling down to the south, till the terminal point of Sicily, a delightful panorama will seem to bring you slowly to Africa. In this spot of heaven, MARZAMEMI is with no doubts the most desirable destination with the characteristic small fishermen houses and culinary delights. Further explore the surrounding of Noto on a moderate challenging loop. This ride and journey across this less traveled corner of Sicily awakens profound sensations, as if you were crossing the threshold of time into thousands of years ago as you pedal toward the ruin of ancient Noto town, stop for a coffee in remote Fonte dell’acqua, and continue climbing to the Cava Grande natural reserve with the option of a leisure country walk and refreshing deep into the charming lakes.
DAY 7 | OPTIONAL layover day in Siracusa ...
Depart or continue your Sicilian adventure with a rest day in Syracuse, authentic wonderland, where the Romans and Byzantines, the Arabs and Normans, the Swabians and Aragonese all wrote a page or two of Sicilian history. Ashort transfer will take you to the top of this activie and charming Vulcano for a guided leisure trekking along Sartorious craters across a lunar landscape dotted with black lava flows and birch trees. Your effort will be rewarded with an earthy lunch at one of wineries built on the slope of the Etna and crafting some of our favorite wines, before been transferred to Taormina where your last hotel is located.
